Which version of automake do you run? Version prior to 1.7 or 1.6.3
(can't exactly remember) can't handle installations of subdirectory
data (aka nobase_pkgdata_DATA = images/groundpiece/someimage.png) and
will fail at install time, while compilation itself will work fine
with them.
