Thanks for your suggestion.

In fact I used the package from openSUSE for it and don't compile cairo myself. I prefer to keep it that way if it is not necessary to compile it myself.

As the warning doesn't harm and is not visible by users I leave it this way.

I think that this is just a bad font name in the source code.
src/output/cairo-chart.c has the string "sans serif" in two places.
What if you change it in each place to "Sans"?
