     I use default RPM build macro *%make_install*. In openSUSE It expands
     automagically into
     
     + make install 
DESTDIR=/home/abuild/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/pspp-1.5.0+git.20200830.g1fb80b-lp151.106.1.x86_64

and what did you pass as --prefix when you ran ./configure ?
