Hi, I'm the author of the i18n patch.

You must specify `fontset' instead of single font.
In my config, -paw-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-16-150-75-75-c-*-*-0 includes
two fonts, a Japanese(multibyte) font and an ascii font.
set font -paw-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-16-150-75-75-c-*-*-0
# Japanese
-paw-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-160-jisx0208.1983-0
# ASCII
-paw-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-80-jisx0201.1976-0
