Savannah Hackers,

Status Update

We have been furnished with a new system installed with the latest and
greatest Trisquel 11 for use as the new management node. The old
system is mgt0 and the new system coming online is mgt1.

The new mgt management node is online. I have made an initial effort
to get the initial things configured for it. It has the newest
OpenSSH due to it being the latest Trisquel 11 system making it a good
login system. Firewalls are updated. It can log into the other systems.

In SR#110593 Karl had earlier requested persistent names for changing
hosts like this with hostnames being 0 or 1 or 2 or whatever. It can
be confusing! I got mixed up myself when Andrew asked me about one of
the internal{0,1,2} systems! This was required while we were rolling
off the previous named systems but now we are past that.

Aliases were set up with simple names. I am going to officially start
encouraging using "mgt" for the management node. It has been pointing
to mgt0. But I changed it to point to mgt1 just now. If you are
using the "ssh mgt" name then it will automatically track to the
latest and greatest server. Please let me know if there are any login
problems seen using the new "ssh mgt" alias to mgt1.

    ssh mgt.sv.gnu.org

The main immediate advantage to the new mgt1 is that it has the latest
OpenSSH. It's good to keep that updated. I have not moved the
cronjobs from mgt0 over yet. But all other access that was available
from mgt0 should be working from mgt1. I have not moved the DNS over
yet. That will need coordination with the FSF nameservers. DNS
management still needs to be done on mgt0 a little while longer.

Bob
