A package was submitted to savannah.gnu.org.
This mail was sent to address@hidden, address@hidden
Cyril Picard <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Genealogy OpenSource Tools
System name: geneatools
This package does NOT want to apply for inclusion in the GNU project
Description:
My project intends to provide GNU/Linux genealogists a free, open-source
software that may help them to practice their research.
This software should be more than an single application : it should be a set of
libraries, tools and documented guidelines to help other developers to
contribute to this project or to use a part of it for their own (considering
they should respect the terms of the licence ;-)
Today the project provides :
- the gedcomparser library, usefull to parse GEDCOM files
- the gedcomviewer application, usefull to visualize and navigate through
GEDCOM files
The gedcomparser library exists and you can download the latest distribution at
http://cpcp.free.fr/devel/gedcomparser/libgedcomparser.0.1.tar.gz
The gedcomviewer application does not exist yet but I\'m working on it.
Other Software Required:
The compilation of the gedcomparser library should run successfully on a
GNU/Linux system. During the build process, the \"configure\" script may give
you detailed information about its dependencies.
The compilation of the gedcomviewer library relies on gtk--, gnome-- libraries,
the bakery framework and its library, and all their dependencies.
Other Comments:
The 2 main constraints about this project are the following :
- any of its components should be free and open-source
- tools used to develop this project should be free, in order to give to any
developer the ability to join the project (for instance I use today the
Personal Edition of Objecteering - distributed freely by SOFTEAM,
www.objecteering.com - to build my UML models).
