Steven Mooij <address@hidden> described the package as
follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Remote Storage
System name: rest
This package wants to apply for inclusion in the GNU project
Description:
This project aims at a script that performs automatic
never-to-worry-about-again backups.
As it has to be a ntwaa solution, I chose a harddisk as backup medium,
a harddisk on another host so that in cases of fire etc...
Another requirement is that, once a backup is made by a user, it
should be possible to protect it from deletetion by the same user.
Otherwise, if this user\'s account were hacked the backup data would
be comprimized.
As in my opinion it is only useful to backup plain user-data (and not
installed programs etc.), only file content and modification time are
to be preserved. Other meta-info (like e.g. owner, rights and access
time) wil be discarded.
Storing files on the backup host is based on a principle that I copied
from \'faubackup\': To save space, identical files are not doubly
stored, but hard linked.
It does not exist yet but I\'m working on it.
Other Software Required:
So far:
perl
ssh/scp
