Robert Millan <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Userspace drivers for the GNU system
System name: user-drivers
Type: non-GNU

Description:
The purpose of this project is to write hardware drivers for the GNU OS that
run in userspace. As such they would interface with the Hurd to attach to the
filesystem interfaces, and possibly with other system components that provide
hardware resources, such as interrupt handling and I/O access.

They are suposed to work with GnuMach kernels, but the long-term goal is to get
them working on L4, which is the platform where the Hurd will need userspace
drivers to work at all.

A driver framework is being dessigned separately to coordinate userspace
drivers running on the GNU system. This project aims to comply with it.

For sample code there\'s this simple (and uncomplete) parallel port driver:

Other Software Required:
GNUMach or L4
the Hurd
the GNU C Library
