Project aims to port GPL-licensed code from a previous commercial

English and a comprehensive facility for creating databases for other
languages; a 70,000 word English pronouncing dictionary; a
letter-to-sound module for words not found in, or derivable from the
dictionary entries; and dictionary editing tools. The MONET module
includes models of British English rhythm and intonation, phonetic
prescriptions, and rules for sound element parameter construction and
concatenation based on original research at the university of Calgary.
he output is a set of samples at up to 44.1 KHz stereo that can be
heard through the normal sound facilities of the computer. Further
information is available at http://www.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~hill and the
original source code is available on the savannah CVS site.
