James Gilberd <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: GDN
System name: gdn
Type: non-GNU

Description:
The GDN server is an implementation of the GDN protocol and services.

The GDN protocol is a diffuse networking, or peer-to-peer, protocol

meant to create a network that empowers casual users for the sharing of

enormous digital libraries with adamantine security. A GDN protocol

packet is cryptographically signed using RSA and MD5 and contains a

short RSA key identifier as a source node address. The rest of the

packet is a multicast group identifier and data. The GDN server will

allow key creation and will verify packets, and eventually use a trust

system. The GDN protocol will require another protocol for the

arrangement of multicast group routes. This protocol will probably be

like PIM-SM. GDN services will be chat and file sharing. With the use

of multicasting and caching, mass downloading of popular files will not

slow down the uploading servers, but actually make uploading more

efficient. The GDN server will map chat to IRC to allow chatting from

an IRC client. The GDN server will allow control of its internal

functions and the file sharing service through an HTTP/HTML user

interface. The GDN server will use tools from a sister project, Lamp,

to manage digital libraries.

Other Software Required:
Liboop, Open SSL, Boehm's GC library, Glib, a web browser, and the Lamp

tools.
