When I do a contrib/gcc_update I get messages to the effect that files cannot be created in the /tmp. 
This occurs from several of my machines,

~/gcc-main(11) contrib/gcc_update
Updating CVS tree
can't create temporary directory /tmp/cvs-serv2056
Permission denied
Adjusting file timestamps
CVS update of full tree failed.
