Shane Volpe <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Atom
System name: atom
Type: GNU

Description:
The purpose of this project is to make a live linux
distribution, based on knoppix, targeted to meet the
needs of Scientists and Engineers. There are quite a
few Science and Engineering Linux programs: Geda (EDA
design suite), Scilab (Matlab clone), PCB, SIBOPLOT,
Vipec (RF simulator), DSP-SIM, FOURIER, Octave (Math
Cad Clone), Dia (Viso Clone) just to name a few.
Reference the following link for more Linux
science/Engineering software:
http://www.linuxlinks.com/Software/Scientific/
The main areas will be Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical
and Mathematical Simulation and Design. If space
permits there will be several Astronomy programs as well.
Areas covered in later releases will be determined by
user feedback.

This distro will provide an easy way for both Linux and
Non-Linux users to use these programs. The
live-distribution will allow for the users to have a
fully functional Engineering/Science development
environment with out having installed any software
(making IT departments happy!).
The environment will be customizable (settings saved to
USB jump drive) and completely portable allowing for
easy movement between labs, departments or even companies.
