==== Description: ====
This project is an audio sample step sequencer with additional features, that
I wanted to use but could not find in other free or non-free sample
sequencers.
1. Microtonal re-sampling. The number of divisions of the musical octave may
be specified by the user. Future versions may allow arbitrary 'scales' too.
2. Non-even beats. Most step-sequencers give you standard time signatures of
even or multiple of 3 beats in a repeat, but this software allows any number
of beats.
2a. Also the 'beats' need not be the same length as one anohter, thus
allowing complicated rhythms without requiring a large number of sub-beats to
be explicitly defined
3. Programmed re-cycling of the samples. As far as I know , this is unique;
the user may select a sample that will automatically get replaced after a
specified number of bars, either from the input stream or from the outgoing
audio buffer.
4. It works with Portaudio or JACK (except when it crashes)
Currently available at variseq.sourceforge.net
==== Other Software Required: ====
fltk (fast light toolkit) library
portaudio or JACK audio back-end library
libsndfile sound-file format library
libsamplerate resampling library
and standard c, c++, pthreads, and tools normally found in gnu/linux
distributions such as Slackware
