==== Description: ====
In the tropics, the roof tends to be the dominant conduit of solar heat into
single-story buildings. And, unless perched alone on a mountaintop, the roof
is also the dominant source of radiative cooling. Roofs, then, are an
important part of the thermal design for tropical buildings.

Accurate modeling of the net flow of thermal-infrared radiation to and from a
roof turns out to be complicated, involving tropospheric radiative-transfer
integrals and high-resolution atmospheric transparency data.

SimRoof is the first program to do this modeling for the variety of
conditions experienced through the typical-meteorological-years available from
the "National Solar Radiation Data Base",
<http://rredc.nrel.gov/solar/old_data/nsrdb/1991-2005/tmy3/>.

SimRoof models one square meter of a horizontal roof instead of a whole
prototypical building. The performance of this low-slope roof component can
be applied to any building in which it is installed in the calculated TMY
region.

==== Other Comments: ====
I didn't check the boxes for:

  All my files include valid copyright notices [1]
  All my files include a license header [1] [2]

because the text-format atmospheric-transparency data runs to 120.MB. The
binary file (which gets mmaped) extracted from this data is much less than
20.MB. I was planning to distribute only the binary data, which doesn't have
text copyright notice or license headers in it.

What is the appropriate license (and copyright?) for the
atmospheric-transparency data? It was generated by running the ATRAN program
which calculates all the molecular absorption lines for atmospheric gases
<http://people.csail.mit.edu/jaffer/SimRoof>:

  Dr. William D. Vacca of SOFIA-USRA NASA Ames Research Center has been kind
enough to run ATRAN[51] for both wet and dry equatorial atmospheres. With this
data, atmospheric transparency can be computed for any level of humidity.

ATRAN is not free software; but my understanding is that copyright doesn't
apply to numerical data.

I don't have a tarball for SimRoof yet. It will be a package similar to
FreeSnell, which also distributes binary spectral data.
