Follow-up Comment #1:

Hi Daniel - as far as I know, Bob Maier is still maintaining plotutils,
although it's certainly true that development has been sporadic at best.  Have
you been in touch with Bob at all?  I would hope he would welcome a new
developer/maintainer, but we have to ask.  Please email me at
address@hidden, as this ticket isn't the best place for the whole
discussion.

I'm going to close this for now, since there are other steps that have to
happen first, much as I would welcome it.  Will reopen when we get that far.
