lack of previewer: agreed. should probably submit that as a separate report.

"[file #NNN" being visible sometimes: clearly something is going on
differently in your comment#2 vs. comment#3 in
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?42897 but it is not clear to me what
you typed.  Maybe you could make an attachment to this bug with the plain text
input.  Doing it in the UI is a lost cause, as you have noted.
