[Straw-devel] On building straw

What are the pros and cons on using the autotools with regards to
building straw?

Right now, CVS head won't build properly because of the gconf
stuff(except if you're building it under one root dir, e.g. garnome
build and under a stow'd directory). 

I know the Makefile suffices but how about user-configured prefixes?
dependency checking? and other stuff autotools provides (that I'm not
aware of ).

I'm willing to do this on the side before the 0.20.0 release. But any
help will be very much appreciated. :)
