That's generous :-) But actually I've just changed it: it now points
to the latest version of SLIME.

Unfortunately the problem persists, even with defaults.

The version that comes with Ubuntu 10.10 is 1.0.40. I tried updating
to 1.0.49 but the problem persists. Either way, my init file has
neither of those lines in it.
Maybe I should try installing the very latest StumpWM? I'm running
StumpWM from the package in the Ubuntu 10.10 repository.
