Hi,
I am writing to propose a Google Summer of Code project.
My goal is to improve the audio error correcting code--aka "paranoia"
code--in libcdio. I set out to make an audio CD archiving program based
on libcdio. This is intended to be an alternative to EAC--Exact Audio
Copy--which is a closed-source Windows application, and the de-facto
standard for audio CD archiving. While my audio CD archiving
application is fully functional, it is limited from being competitive
with EAC by problems with the error correcting code in libcdio. I
intend to improve the error correcting code in libcdio to enable people
to write free software alternatives to the closed-source EAC.
I have contributed fixes to libcdio in the past as I developed my audio
archiving program. I have worked with the current libcdio maintaner,
Rocky Bernstein, who has indicated to me that he would be willing to
sponsor me as a mentor for this as a Google Summer of Code project. He
advised me to email this address with my proposal. I look forward to
your reply.
Thank you!
