Embedding is not  a simple problem to handle generally.   R has done a 
lot of work to make it easier.  Is it easy enough in to satisfy 
everyone?   No not by a long shot.   It's not a perfect world.  Too bad 
and sorry.  It's good enough for motivated user -- people that seek to 
extend R in novel ways.  Many have.  An afternoon of fiddling around to 
get setup and then learning enough about enough R internal conventions 
to move data around efficiently.  There's a decent manual on it.
