I had the same problem, and tried Simo's suggestion below and worked great...

I've asked this before but am stuck again.

I am trying to compile pdf2swf. I can compile 0.7.0 but not 0.8.0 or 0.8.1.

With the '8' versions, during the configure process I get this error...

checking size of signed... configure: error: cannot compute sizeof (signed)

and it stops. 

Any ideas? Version 7 compiles and runs...
