I hope I'm helping out by offering complaints - Synaptic is really useful.

Synaptic and the update manager grabs focus a lot. I think every time it installs. When I install something, and flip over to another program, synaptic will take focus.. When it finishes down loading and starts installing, it will show up, even though there's nothing I need to do at that point.

I'm sorry if this is a problem with my install, or a setting of some kind.

That is IMHO completely unrelated to Internet connection as your local
database (ie. the one you download via Refresh or apt-get update) is
searched only.

What if term was searched only when 2 (or 3) characters are written?
It makes no sense to search for packages containing less than 3 chars
and search takes quite a time. I agree.
