    For the Maxima manual, variables are enclosed in angle
    brackets, e.g. @var{foo} => <foo>.

I believe I have seen other manuals wanting to do this too.
What if we made an option for this specific variant output?
It seems pretty reasonable to me.  At least as reasonable as some of the
other variations we already support with @exampleindent and the like.

(If anything, rms's usage of all capitals is what was nonstandard in the
first place.)
