What you need is perhaps a more focussed and user-friendly kind of documentation. You should at least try: http://www.ags.uni-sb.de/~henri/texmacs/aTeXmacsTutorial.pdf
On page 4 I read something about the 'inactive*' tag. But I haven't read a definition of what it actually means:
inactive form in wysiwyg mode . I can only guess. Ralf
