[Texmacs-dev] What I did with Git wrongly

I did the following command:

$ git svn clone svn://svn.sv.gnu.org/texmacs

and got

$ ls texmacs/
branches  tags  trunk

that is Git hasn't understood what these are branches and tags not plain 
subdirectories.

What I did wrongly?
