Michael, I forgot to mention that I ssh'd from the emacs shell and then ran the sed command... anyway, uname -sr ==> Sun OS 5.8 /opt/local/bin/sed --version ==> 3.02 ( realize that this is a pretty old version, but the command that is supposed to execute is not really all that crazy...
