Michael,

I forgot to mention that I ssh'd from the emacs shell and then ran the
sed command...

anyway,

uname -sr ==> Sun OS 5.8

/opt/local/bin/sed --version ==> 3.02 ( realize that this is a pretty
old version, but the command that is supposed to execute is not really
all that crazy... I will try to upgrade sed anyway)

thanks,

James

M-x shell gives you a local shell. That means, the sed command runs OK
under Cygwin.

What kind of machine is the remote host? Could you, please, send me
the result of "uname -sr" and "sed --version"?

Best regards, Michael.
