Problems with mysql interface

Howdy?  

I've built gprolog on a Suse box,

carlospc:/usr/local/tars # uname -a
Linux carlospc 2.6.11.4-20a-smp #1 SMP Wed Mar 23 21:52:37 UTC 2005 i686 i686 
i386 GNU/Linux

running gcc 3.3.5

carlospc:/usr/local/tars # gcc --version

Everything works as normal, but when I run anything against the mysql libs
(4.1.6) nothing works...
