VNC servers for X11 support antaliasing because the anti aliasing is
done by the server code and VNC re-renders the results remotely (at
least with Alan Hourihane's modules). XFree 3.3.x doesn't have Xrender
and the old Xvnc is based on that so doesn't have render either. Even so
with some libraries you will still get antialiasing because the client
library does something approximating

        No ? Ok give me this rectangle
        Scribbles on copy of rectangle
        Now draw this rectangle

It does mean such apps perform abysmally if used remotely with non
render capable servers.
