Beep.  Xouvert's api is NOT going to pull away from XFree86's.  X11 is a
standard that has been set in stone for a decade now.  Extensions are
*additions* to the API; they change nothing.  10 year old X apps still
work because of this.  That will not change.

wont compile under xouvert. shouldn't compatability with xfree86 apps be at least a concern? a loadable module for xouvert, like "xf86-compat" or something like, would make simple x apps, all the way

There will be no need for compability modules, because there will be no
incompatilibity, unless someone on the XFree86 side deliberately adds
extensions that conflict with ours.  And I believe highly enough of them
that I would never expect them to stoop so low.

No, just ignorant.  Read through the X Server Developers Handbook that
is in the XFree86 sources.  It is out of date, but still useful for
large chunks of the codebase.  Read up some more, and we will welcome
you as a fellow developer.
