Does it add to the Xserver? of course. Is it worth it to the client? I think so. Is it changing the idea of what X is? I don't think so; most extensions are just implementations of common macros, and I think there is enough demand for some serious brainstorming on this idea. I would hate to think that something (Xserver) so central to *NIX windowing can't allow clients to do their job faster because it's something that X isn't used to.

I think this mailing list is the wrong place to discuss this kind of
stuff. The GNOME and KDE guys know, or will find out, what they need.
And when they do, Xouvert stands ready to implement it. We have enough
on our plate with getting driver updates happening fast and steady
without inventing new extensions on our own "on spec".

Now, if someone wants to write a plug-in extension, that doesn't mean we
won't take it. After all, experimentation and new developement is part
of our mandate. But right now, inventing new things isn't our job.
Our job is integrating others new ideas into a working product.

Cheers!
