The only "fix" I can think just now is to stop testing the exit status of grep when '-L' is specified. :-(I'd first try to see if the test succeeds again if run under $POSIXLY_CORRECT being set. From grep 3.4's man page:
I have tried. It didn't work, as I suspected, because the change in grep does not seem to check POSIXLY_CORRECT:
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/grep.git/diff/?id=92526f7246464825c5547ceb08e01433e035c867&id2=bfcad04c5ef73c7d78eeff32127ee8e0462307dbBut even if it had worked, the exit status of grep when using '-L' is now "contaminated"; maybe the same change has been made, or will be made, to other non-GNU versions of grep.
Best regards, Antonio.
