more documentation proofreading

Hi, this morning I decided to spend a little more time going through the
manual to look for anything that could be improved by a slight rewording.
(I made it about a quarter of the way through so far, up to "Existing
Tests.")

Note that you may have problems applying this patch if you also apply my
tabs->spaces patch, since both patches are against the unmodified sources.
In that case, you may need to run the attached diff file through 
        perl -pi -e 's/\t/        /g' diff.out
first.

My next job is to rewrite everything in dactylic hexameter.  ;)
