I'm more worried about shells that don't redirect the 'not found'
message.  These are not necessarily Bourne shells; it's an easy area
to get wrong, and one could easily argue that POSIX does not specify
the behavior in this area (I just looked at the standard, and I
couldn't find a clear specification).

Minor efficiencies like this are not sufficient justification, if
there is a real risk of breaking things elsewhere.
