Holy crap, I can't. Automake itself doesn't know about ::-rules.
Given that the support for :-rules is already flawed in many ways,
and that it is expected to be rewritten to share some code with
the variable handling code (rewriting the variable support is
a TODO for 1.8), I'm inclined to postpone the introduction of a new
style of rules.
