I suppose that by "which is in CVS" you mean the project "config" on
savannah, which is used by the command proposed by Ralf:

  http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/~checkout~/config/config/config.sub

Well, the interface between Autoconf and config.sub/guess is very simple
and I don't think it has ever changed.

So we can support that they are always compatible.
