Where is the proper place to include my include files

I'm a noobie to Autoconf/AutoMake. Where is the proper place to getAutomake/Autoconf to track my include files when creating a distribution?

Should this be done with AC_CHECK_FILE, or is there another mechanism totrack my custom include files?
