Have you looked in the Tests section of the Automake manual?  There are
instructions there for the "check" target, script based tests, parallel
tests, DejaGNU tests, and custom test runners.  It's not exactly a
tutorial, but it's fairly straightforward.  If that's insufficient, I'm
happy to provide guidance
