Commented this out and it bypassed creation of anything in ./config. All files were created in the ./ folder from which ./configure ran them.

Guess the macro never really worked?

Progressing further from my earlier issue, tried to resolve this one but nothing work.

Tried searching this up but none of the fixes worked.  However I try various combinations of:

AC_CONFIG_AUX_DIR([config])

I still get:

configure: error: cannot find install-sh, install.sh, or shtool in "." "./.." "./../.."

I notice that ac_aux_dir= is not set to 'config' as I think it should be using the above automake macro.

If I set configure to use ac_aux_dir=./config then configure completes. ./autogen.sh or automake, autoheader or autoreconf don't appear to respect AC_CONFIG_AUX_DIR([config]) and continue to generate ./configure with an empty ac_aux_dir=   .

Any suggestions?
