Ah-ha, I see now. So, there are no problems in auth mode, are there?

Nope, auth mode works perfect!


Let's summarise what's going on in transparent mode:

1) You connect to the host running Anubis from another machine. In this
case Anubis requires that the username be translated in TRANSLATION
section.

Yep, actually I am translation address@hidden to
haischt (which is a local user on my FreeBSD box).


2) Anubis queries identd server, gets username `haischt' from there,
but it fails to translate it. Now, since the connect comes from the
remote host (as opposed to localhost), Anubis refuses to use the received
user name and switches to the unprivileged user 'nobody'.

Yep that's correct. Would it be possible to generate an explicit debug
message like "can't translate remote user to local user"?


3) Since 'nobody' does not have `.anubisrc' file (it should not have
one, anyway), Anubis does not read any.

Yea that's true.
