DEPS_MAGIC := ... ?

I am not really sure that this is a bug in autoconf, but is has occured
for me in two packages after autoconf:ing them:

The generated Makefiles contain two lines:
DEPS_MAGIC := $(shell mkdir .deps > /dev/null 2>&1 || :)

-include $(DEP_FILES)

that don't have anything to do with the rest of the Makefile, and generate
a syntax error ... unfortunately I am not a Makefile guru, that's why I
can't exactly locate the error :-)

They occur when using autoconf 2.13 on the
packages SDL1.1.6.tar.gy (from www.libsdl.org)
and both the CVS version and the package mpeg2dec from
www.linuxvideo.org/mpeg2dec

I am running it on Irix 6.2 .

I can send you a defect Makefile or any other files you need ...
