the bundled C-compiler does neither support optimizing, nor does it support
-Ae (set extended ANSI). So if you see +O2 or -Ae, without warnings from the
compiler that these are unrecognized switches, you can be sure it's the
payed-for compiler.

Ahh, that's a simple question: No.

Knew that. Never got gcc working on HP-UX to produce code that would work on
M$-Win (whatever subversive OS). Now I've got cygwin, so I don't care anymore
to try ...
