Odd. I don't recall getting that constellation of failures with Solaris 8. It suggests you may have a problem with your Perl or M4 installation. Anyway, you might also try this test version, which has several Solaris bugs fixed: ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/autoconf/autoconf-2.59b.tar.gz
