Paul,

[OT: the libtool bit works (ie the spurious errno problem with fread
reported by Marion)]

Tests were better this time (all 187 run, but 1 failed: "187 [Libtool]
FAILED (foreign.at:53)").

Changes to previous:
M4-1.4.2 and the pointed autoconf-2.59b

address@hidden/home/jjj/Work/GNUTools/autoconf-2.59b(105): libtool --version
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.5.8 (1.1220.2.117 2004/08/04 14:12:05)

Paul,

I'll test this version also. See what it says.

It all happened while installing from scratch the autotools, including
libtool and figuring that m4-1.4.1 and libtool don't really work together...
I have now also installed m4 1.4.2 and am in the process of "make check" in
automake, after which to install libtool, and see whether aclocal will work
again on my (on Linux developed) sources...

Eventually the current process (ie before testing autoconf-2.59b) might take
until tomorrow. But I'll give it a go anyhow.

Regards,
Guus

Odd. I don't recall getting that constellation of failures with Solaris 8.
It suggests you may have a problem with your Perl or M4 installation.

Anyway, you might also try this test version, which has
several Solaris bugs fixed:
