With current git tip, I'm getting AC_PREREQ failures such as:
/usr/bin/m4:configure.ac:212: Warning: m4_eval: bad expression (missing
right parenthesis): (03118+0) != (0*4)
I finally figured it out - m4_eval sees the string 03118, and complains
because it is not a valid octal number. I'm still thinking about how best
to fix this (basically, I want m4_version_compare to ignore leading zeros,
and treat version strings as decimal once the letters have been flattened).
