Not all tests should strip trailing cr.  Or, put in other words, autotest
is also useful for testing binary files (although generating NUL bytes or
files without trailing newlines is admittedly harder to do).  If we were
to introduce something like this, I think it should be a new macro that
autotest writers can choose to use on a per-test basis, rather than
blindly used in all instances of diff.  But I also think the idea has some
merit.
