When I try to type the pipeline character on my UK keyboard it ignores it i.e I get nothing. This happens when I use the default key which is "SHIFT \". VIM correctly gets it therefore I can only assume it is some default setting in bash. This also only happens on Windows 98 not NT 4.0 which I also use. The keyboard setup on Win 98 is:
