In bash 2.05,

In SHELLOPTS, it discusses 
        set -o
to report shelloptions.

Under the set command, it lists:
   set [--abefhkmnptuvxBCHP] [-o option] [arg ...]

and elaborates:

          -o option-name
                      The option-name can be one of  the  follow-
                      ing:

For clarity it would be a good idea to have the definition be
           set [--abefhkmnptuvxBCHP] [-o [option]] [arg ...]

and to talk about under set -o what occurs when you do
        set -o
alone.
