Segmentation Fault - core dumped

Subject: Segmentation Fault - core dumped

I am getting the following error when I try to start
bash on a Sun Netra 1400 Running solaris 2.6.

"brkccp> uname -a
SunOS brkccp 5.6 Generic_105181-21 sun4u sparc
SUNW,Ultra-80"

"brkccp> bash
Segmentation Fault - core dumped"

No other messages. I have installed
"bash-2.05-sol26-sparc-local" from
"http://www.sunfreeware.com/"; and have also compiled
"bash-2.05" directly on the machine. Bash works on
other Sun boxes that are configured the same (or so
they are supposed to be).

Running "gdb xdump core" on the resulting core file
gives me

"brkccp> gdb xdumb core
GNU gdb 4.17

This GDB was configured as "sparc-sun-solaris2.6"...

xdumb: No such file or directory.

Core was generated by `bash'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation Fault.

Can anybody help please?

Roy
