In 'C'

char *s = NULL
is not the same as
char *s="";

They aren't the same at the machine level nor at the language level.

In perl:
my $s = undef;
is not the same as
my $s = "";

Off hand, I don't know of any computer language that
equates them (doesn't mean there is none).

undef = unset
null may be set but
ANSI defines '\0' as NUL.  Is that the same as null?
