i'm seeing a similar bug i think:
  https://bugs.gentoo.org/458164

let's assume that the linking line is wrong (and is missing stuff/wrong
order/whatever).  why is the linker issuing this message:
/lib64/libstdc++.so.6: could not read symbols: Invalid operation

that makes no sense.
